Oppo Series 15: Hands on review

With an aggressive India-first focus, Oppo brings its Reno 15 series this January. New camera hardware, AI, and premium builds remain the focus of this generation. Here is everything you need to know before the launch.

Oppo launch the Reno 15 series in India. The lineup is going to feature three major smartphones from Oppo including the Reno 15, Reno 15 Pro, and Reno 15 Pro Mini. This generation from Oppo is more focused on imaging and AI as Oppo brings on a refreshed take on colour science, portrait realism, and video stabilisation across all the lenses on all its new phones. This shift brings on a new take on Oppo’s strategy.

Instead of focusing on pure megapixel power alone, the Reno 15 series attempts to solve real camera problems like mixed lighting, motion blur, uneven skin tone, and shaky video capture.

Camera hardware

  • The Pro and the Pro Mini get the 200MP image sensor on the back, while the non-Pro Reno 15 is stuck with a 50 MP one on the back.
  • 3.5x telephoto lens on all models delivers natural portrait compression
  • Ultrawide camera retains a similar colour profile as the main lens.
  • Standard Reno 15 retains the core imaging logic despite the reduced hardware inside.

The Reno 15 Pro and the Pro Mini anchor the series with a stellar 200 MP rear sensor paired with Oppo’s PureTone imaging system. This setup focuses on separating subjects from backgrounds minus the aggressive edge detection found in previous generations. Skin tones are reproduced accurately. Highlights avoid clipping and the shadows retain texture even in highly lit environments.

The 50 MP telephoto camera will come with 3.5x optical zoom and handle portrait compression quite effortlessly. Faces captured look natural and not flat. The 50 MP ultrawide lens brings 100 degree wide FOV and maintains a similar colour profile as the primary lens.

The standard Reno 15 shaves some of the hardware off to keep the costs down, but the image-first philosophy remains intact. You get a 50 MP main sensor instead of the 200 MP one, along with the same 50 MP telephoto lens and an 8 MP ultrawide camera. Oppo still brings the same image processing power to this model as you get high-tier processing logic in a much lower price bracket than its “Pro” siblings.

Video performance

  • 4K HDR video recording across front, wide, main, and telephoto cameras
  • Selamless lens switching mid recording
  • Dual compression gain improves highlight and shadow retention
  • Dual-view and in-video capture make it a creator’s paradise

Video capture has been a core pillar for this launch from Oppo. Both the Pro models get support for 4K HDR at 60 fps across all the cameras. This also includes the front facing camera. Users can now switch lenses mid-shot without colour or exposure shifts.

Dual conversion gain on the main camera improves the dynamic range of your footage even in the harshest lighting. And electronic image stabilisation works alongside optical stabilisation to give you great footage every time. This combination helps to massively reduce jitter during handheld shooting.

You also now get dual-view recordings that allows to simultaneously capture from the front and rear cameras. Quite useful for creators who want to frame reactions and scenes together without having to rely on third-party apps to do this simple task. Plus, the ability to snap photos while recording a video remains unchanged on all oppo models.

AI imaging tools

  • AI processing with this generation has a higher focus on realism over cosmetic enhancements
  • Portrait lighting adjusts gradients instead of smoothing textures
  • Motion editing removes distractions without subject distortion
  • Core AI features extended to the standard model

Oppo introduces its AI Editor 3.0 across the Reno 15 series. If you hated those exaggerated visual effects, you are going to love this. You get access to AI Portrait Glow, which allows you to adjust lighting gradients, Motion photo editing to help you remove unwanted elements from videos, Group photo processing to balance exposure across faces of all skin tones, and a whole lot more. These might seem small improvements over the last year but the polish to the features introduced with this update seems very promising.

The standard Reno 15 gets many of these features with its similar camera setup, although some features might remain restricted to the higher models.

Display and design

  • AMOLED displays tuned for size diversity without compromising resolution
  • Higher peak brightness reserved for the Pro variants
  • Aerospace-grade aluminium in the Pro models offers significantly more structural rigidity
  • IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings exceed typical flagship protection

The Reno 15 Pro Mini uses a compact 6.32-inch AMOLED while its non-mini, pro sibling gets the larger 6.78 inch AMOLED. The standard model sits comfortably with a 6.59 inch AMOLED panel. All three panels get you full HD+ resolution with higher peak brightness figures on the Pro models.

The Pro models also get the aerospace-grade aluminium shell with the HoloFusion technology to offer enhanced protection. The standard variants skip out on this hardware feature. Design language remains the same on all three models as Oppo avoids flashy textures and focuses more on the durability and balance of the devices.

Performance and battery

  • Dimensity 8450 prioritises sustained performance over peak bursts
  • Larger batteries support extended camera and video usage
  • Fast charging reduces downtime on all the models
  • Android 16 out of the box for a better system performance and stability

All three models get the MediaTek Dimensity 8450 chipset, a process that offers a great mix of sustained performance without power efficiency. It handles imaging workloads, video processing, and multitasking without aggressive thermal throttling.

Battery capacities exceed 6000 mAh for all the models with support for fast charging. Oppo claims over one day of use even with heavy use. Android 16 ships out of the box to you are all sorted on the updates front.

Final thoughts

Oppo’s Reno 15 series seems deliberate as Oppo strips away the gimmicks and focuses on measurable camera improvements and dependable hardware choices. For users looking for the best images and video reliability, the Reno 15 series is a serious contender for 2026.
