Apple is said to be developing a smart home display with both speaker and wall-mount options, plus refreshed Apple TV and HomePod mini models.

This overhaul represents one of the most significant updates of Siri since its 2011 debut. Apple aims to make the assistant more conversational and context-aware by fixing long-standing frustrations about its limited intelligence compared to competitors like ChatGPT and Google Assistant. This move could also strengthen Apple’s lineup of AI-Powered Phones, which increasingly rely on smarter on-device and cloud-based intelligence to deliver seamless user experiences.

Powered by Google’s Gemini

The major twist is that Apple is reportedly paying Google to build a custom Gemini based AI model to run on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute (PCC) servers. Which means that Siri will use Google’s AI technology for advanced reasoning, summarization and web search but with all data handled securely through Apple’s own infrastructure.

Before finalizing the deal, Apple held an internal “bake-off” between Google and Anthropic. While Anthropic’s Claude performed slightly better in tests, Bloomberg reports that its cost is estimated at over $1.5 billion per year by making Gemini the more practical choice.

This marks a rare and somewhat ironic collaboration between two long time competitors. Apple known for prioritizing privacy and maintaining independence from Google is now turning to its rival’s technology to strengthen one of its core features.
