Reportedly, Apple is preparing for its one of the biggest overhauls in Siri’s history and it might be powered by Google’s Gemini AI. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company is planning a massive revamp of Siri and its Apple Intelligence platform for Spring 2026, marking it as a new chapter in Apple’s AI ambitions.
A Smarter Siri Arriving in 2026

It is also rumored that the next-generation Siri is internally codenamed “Glenwood” It will debut around March–April 2026 with new hardware designed to showcase its AI capabilities. Apple is said to be developing a smart home display with both speaker and wall-mount options, plus refreshed Apple TV and HomePod mini models.
This overhaul represents one of the most significant updates of Siri since its 2011 debut. Apple aims to make the assistant more conversational and context-aware by fixing long-standing frustrations about its limited intelligence compared to competitors like ChatGPT and Google Assistant. This move could also strengthen Apple’s lineup of AI-Powered Phones, which increasingly rely on smarter on-device and cloud-based intelligence to deliver seamless user experiences.
Powered by Google’s Gemini

The major twist is that Apple is reportedly paying Google to build a custom Gemini based AI model to run on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute (PCC) servers. Which means that Siri will use Google’s AI technology for advanced reasoning, summarization and web search but with all data handled securely through Apple’s own infrastructure.
Before finalizing the deal, Apple held an internal “bake-off” between Google and Anthropic. While Anthropic’s Claude performed slightly better in tests, Bloomberg reports that its cost is estimated at over $1.5 billion per year by making Gemini the more practical choice.
This marks a rare and somewhat ironic collaboration between two long time competitors. Apple known for prioritizing privacy and maintaining independence from Google is now turning to its rival’s technology to strengthen one of its core features. Yet, the company is doing so on its own terms, keeping control over data handling, design and user experience.
What to Expect from the New Siri

The Gemini-powered Siri is expected to be smarter, faster and more natural in conversation. It will better understand user intent, plan multi-step tasks and deliver more detailed answers something users have long wanted. Apple’s models will still manage on-device personalization by ensuring privacy remains central to the experience.
According to Gurman, the new Siri will not integrate Google’s services directly instead, Gemini will operate quietly behind the scenes as part of Siri’s AI backend.
Apple’s AI Push and What’s Next

Apple plans to expand its Apple Intelligence platform, which already includes ChatGPT access for writing and creative tools. The Gemini partnership, however, marks the company’s first major move to bring AI into Siri’s core functions rather than keeping it as an optional feature.
Still, challenges remain. Gurman warns that “there’s no guarantee users will embrace it, that it will work seamlessly, or that it can undo years of damage to the Siri brand.” But if successful, this upgrade could transform how users interact with Apple devices and search for information, potentially reducing the need for traditional web searches.
Apple is expected to detail its AI roadmap at WWDC 2026, where it will preview iOS 27, macOS 27 and watchOS 27 with deeper Apple Intelligence integration.
If Bloomberg’s reporting holds true 2026 could mark a turning point where the signature assistant of Apple finally becomes as smart as it looks, thanks in part to technology from one of its oldest rivals.
